Ten persons have been reported dead and nine others seriously injured following a road accident on the Yaounde- Bertoua highway that occurred in the night of Thursday August 29 breaking Friday.

According to reports, the accident involved a transport bus identified as Avenir de la Kadey transporting over 70 passengers and a heavy duty truck transporting locks of wood.

The regrettable situation reportedly occurred when the heavy duty truck hit the transport bus that was heading to the East region on high speed. The bus finally ended its race in a ravine, killing at least ten people and seriously injuring nine others.

The injured were evacuated to the Yaounde Central Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment, meanwhile the bodies were taken to the Ekounou Military hospital.

The cause of the accident has been established and reports say it was due to negligence, excess speed and bad use of highway signs by both drivers.
