Cameroon has joined the world over to begin commemorating the annual 16-day campaign against Violence on Women. n Cameroon, the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the family through a number of programmes, protect women and girls against Gender-based violence in line with the United Nations prescriptions.
During this annual 16 Days of Activism to end Violence against Women,which marks the first of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence and culminates with Human Rights Day on December 10, governments in partnership with Non-Governmental Organisations educate the public on best practices to uphold the rights of women and the young girl.
The experts are expected to also advocate for greater awareness and action to put an end to deeply rooted gender-based violence and discrimination.
This year’s 16 Days theme “Orange the world: #HearMeToo” recognizes women, girls as they speak out about the violence they experience, particularly in marginalized and undeserved communities that include refugees, minorities, indigenous peoples, and those affected by conflict and natural disasters.
The official campaign colour is orange, which symbolizes a brighter future. It will be featured prominently in events and activities globally.
