An Egyptian engineer working at the contruction site of the Olembe stadium in Yaounde has died following an accident on the site, sources have confirmed.

The engineer, Mahmoud Abdallah, was involved in the accident after sustaining serious injuries when a lifting machine he was repairing fell on him.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost despite several treatment administered to him by doctors.

The company in charge of the construction of the stadium Groupo Piccini deeply regretted the death of this employee who has served for the past eight years with the group.

The company said in a communiqué that it had informed the Egyptian embassy in Cameroon for preparations to be made so the corpse could be repartriated to Egypt.

The unfortunate incident occured just days after a fourth inspection mission of the Confederation of African Football was at the Olembe stadium on Sunday to assess the level of works ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
