The leader of the National Union for Democracy and Progress, NUDP, has revealed his party will not present a candidate at the 2018 Presidential election but will throw its weight behind the incumbent and candidate of the ruling CPDM party, Paul Biya.

This decision was arrived at after thecentral bureau of the  NUDP met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Bello Bouba Maigari.

The party said in a statement that its decision not to present a candidate at the Presidential election scheduled for October 7 is down to several reasons, amongst them the economic sitiuation of the country as well as the nation’s preparation to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The party also took note of the security challenges face by the country in the Far North region as well as the North West and South West regions and have thus decided not to present a candidate but throw their weight behind Paul Biya.

“(The NUDP)calls on all its supporters to throw their weight behind Head of State Paul Biya…at the Presidential election scheduled for October 7,” the party said in a statement.

The NUDP holds a long-term alliance with the ruling CPDM party which has seen member of the party appointed into the government as well as the Senate.
