The University of Bamenda has confirmed one of its student was on Wednesday killed by soldiers in Bambili, North West Region of Cameroon.
According to a communiqué signed by the Head of Information of the Institution, Dr. Victor Cheo, the student was shot at a hotel by 8.00pm.
“A second year student of the Department of Geography and Planning by name Birli Cary Kusynyuy was shot dead by the military,” Dr. Victor Cheo said in a statement.
The BBC earlier reported in the week that five students had been pulled out of their hostels and shot by the military but the University of Buea has since dismissed that claim stating only one student was killed by the military.
The statement from the Bamenda University stressed that the event took place at a hotel in Bambili and not in their hostels.
The University of Bamenda called on reporters to always endeavour to always double-check their facts before publication.
