President Biya and wife has supported some victims whose shops at the Bamenda food market were burnt by unknown persons on March 14, 2017.

The presidential couple handed the sum of FCFA 73 million through North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique.

While distributing the money at the Bamenda congress hall on May 5, to some 91 traders in Bamenda, Governor Lele Lafrique, urged the victims to have faith in the presidential couple who have demonstrated that they share in the joys and pains of Cameroonians. The governor urged them to dominate fear and give their families hope with nonstop business activities. He stressed that the assistance is proof of President Biya’s goodwill and exhorted the people to have confidence in the state and not listen to those who only preach destruction and division.

The victims for their part, hailed the presidential couple for the assistance which they say will help them to start up business activities from scuff.

During the March 14 Bamenda market fire incident, 111 open sheds were burnt, six others whose lock- up shops were erased and 12 tables lost to the fire. Many shop owners had given up hope and felt so desperate thinking that life would never be the same for them again. However, Biya’s aid they reiterate has given them a glimmer of hope.
