The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Paul Atanga Nji has banned commercial motor bike activities in some parts of the South West region for a period of seven to ten days renewable.

« Following instructions that were given to the Governors (of the North West and South West regions), they have decided to temporarily ban commercial moto bike activities in some localitie, » a release signed by Atanga Nji read.

The ban thus affects the entire Ndian Division, Muyuka in the Fako Division and the Meme I, II, III  Mbonge and Konye Sub Divisions.

It has equally been extended to the Balikumbat Sub Division in the Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region.

This ban follows that imposed on the Widikum and Batibo Sub Divisions in the Momo Division a day earlier by the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele LAfrique.

« This ban will run for seven days or ten if need be and could be renewed or extended to other Sub Divisions following an assessment of the situation of ground by the Governor concerned, » the Minister of Territorial Administration said in a statement.

According to the Minister, the measure has been taken to track down secessionists who launch their attacks with the use of commercial motor cycles.

Security in parts of the North West and South West regions of Cameroon has been unstable following violent clashes between security forces and separatist fighters forcing villagers to flee their homes.

The violence has escalated in recent weeks as a result of the abduction of two local administrative authorities by unknown persons.

The Regional Delegate for Social Affairs for the North West Region was kidnapped over a week ago in Batibo by unknown gunmen. It followed the abduction of the Divisional Officer of Batibo on the 11 February at the Grand Stand.

Both officials have not been found despite search operations by security forces.
