Tombi A Roko, President of Cameroon’s Football Federation, Fecafoot, has raised concerns over Ahmad Ahmad remarks on the country’s ability to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking on a trip to Burkina Faso, Ahmad Ahmad, Caf’s President gave his clearest indication yet that Cameroon could be stripped of hosting rights for the newly extended event. He claimed the country has no single site and is not ready to host even four teams.

Reacting to these allegations, Tombi A Roko in a press outing on Monday August 7 in Yaounde, said Fecafoot is deeply concerned by the fact that these remarks are made even before the first inspection mission of Caf, scheduled for August 20-28, 2017.

The Fecafoot boss insinuated that Caf’s president’s outings are all moves to write off Cameroon given that the country just organised with undeniable success, the 2016 women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

“This competition was held without any hindrance at the Yaoundé-Mfandena and Buéa /Limbe sites, which were also retained to host AFCON 2019. It should be recalled that the excellent organisation of this women’s AFCON has earned Cameroon several awards” he said.

He wondered why Caf’s recent reform to expand teams from 16 to 24, applies to the next host Cameroon whereas FIFA Council’s decision to change the format of the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams will not apply to Russia in 2018 or Qatar 2022.

Tombi A Roko equally questioned the unilateral change in the date of the first CAF inspection mission from September to August 2017 without notice, a sign which he says smacks volumes of bad faith.

In the end, the Fecafoot President reaffirmed the country’s ability to host and its commitment to providing good standard infrastructures before the deadline.
