A sixty-year old lady has given birth to a set of twins at the gynaecological endoscopic surgery and human reproductive teaching hospital in yaounde.

The birth registered on April 27 is one of the successes recorded from Cameroon’s newly introduced in-vitro fertilisation method.

According to Jean Marie Kasai, Director of the hospital, the 60 year old woman is a retired worker who never had children. Kasai said the lady was medically watched closely during the nine months of pregnancy by a team of experts, amongst whom were cardiologists. “After the successful surgery, she expressed immense joy and thanked the Almighty for the gift of babies. She also expressed gratitude to the First Lady, Chantal Biya for the creation of the centre that has put smiles on the faces of hitherto desperate women”.

The gynaecological endoscopic surgery and human reproductive teaching hospital is an initiative of Cameroon’s First Lady to enhance medically assisted reproduction.

The centre was inaugurated in May 2016 and since then, many childless Cameroonians have been made mothers through in-vitro fertilisation.
