A group of 35 youth associations have thrown their weight behind the leader of the ruling CPDM party, Paul Biya, ahead of the Presidential election scheduled for October 7.
Paul Biya, 85, is bidding to extend his 35-year stay in office when he faces off with eight other candidates in October and has received support from various quarters the latest being youth associations.
Meeting in Yaounde at the weekend, the group which describes itself as the G35 declared their unflinching support for the incumbent promising to give him two million votes.
On the reasons for their support for Biya, the youths say the Head of State has greatly achieved during his mandate which to them is a motivation to keep pushing him on.
The creation of seven ministerial positions to cater for the plight of youths, creation of special support programs and structures for the youths, donation of laptops to students are just some of the achievements which the youths pointed out to the credit of Paul Biya.
The backing from the youth associations follows that of some twenty opposition parties that met in Yaounde last month to equally declare their support for Paul Biya.
