The Catholic Church in Cameroon has created a commission to monitor the Presidential election scheduled for October 7.

During a press conference held on Douala on Monday September 18, the President of National Episcopal Council of Cameroon , His Lordship Samuel Kleda said the role of the church in the upcoming election is to remain neutral.

He said the church’s responsibility is to guide Cameroonians to choose a leader who will be able to solve Cameroon’s political, social and economic problems in peace.

He used the opportunity to dismiss a recent survey published by a US firm predicting a win for Paul Biya with 81 percent. Archbishop Kleda said this was just a campaign strategy to sway voters.

He also used the press conference to talk on the Anglophone crisis harmerring that the crisis has been fueled by injustice and bad governance and called on the state to open frank and sincere dialogue.
